Tamer Hosni is going to represent a concert soon in the Chinese garden , the news is ok for me , and it is great for his fans and they are many but the idea ,I found it so silly that this concert is sponsored by the army itself !!!

In fact I once read that it was by the orders of the Defense minister this singer who is doing military service now after escaping from it thanks to forgery , is going to sing in it !!

Yes Tamer did something wrong and he was punished

But we shouldn't forget what he had done and how influence he can be

in the end ,I dedicate Tamer's picture in the uniform

Anthony Eden , the most famous name in the war of 1956 aka Suez War , the man who started it and unfortunately didn't end it as he wanted

The British Prime minister who had a very long history in foreign affairs in the most critical times of history of England ,at the time of WWII ,if you read his profile in Wikipedia ,you would know that Eden held several important positions without reaching his 40. Imagine working in the British foreign affairs ministry in the WWII and then with the rise of the cold war

you will be surprised to find that the handsome intelligent man miscalculated several points the Suez war including the most important mistake ; not knowing the fact or ignoring the fact that UK is no longer the dominant power of the world

I believe all the expertise and intelligence of the world couldn't protect or help Eden from the pressure and illness ,

The pressure that comes of the burden that he was filling Churchill place , after the war when the Power of UK began to fade away ,more and more colonies in the East and West were declaring its independence , a new world taking a shape , with new dangerous threat of a power that can consider not less dangerous from the Nazi threat , the Communist power of the Soviet Union

Then we got illness ,it was a surprise to me to know that Eden was sick in 1956 when I saw a documentary in Discovery Civilization under the title :Altered Statesmen

Before becoming a prime minister ,During an operation to remove Eden's gallstones,the surgeon damaged his bile duct. This terrible mistake caused him a lot ,it made Eden so vulnerable to recurrent infections and various types of pain and fever , and to overcome this continuous pain the doctors then prescribed to him Benzedrine , a drug that was thought to be the medical miracle in the 1950s yet now it was discovered that it belongs to a family of drugs called amphetamines, which are considered illegal drugs now "oh yes the English sophisticated man was a drug to make him feel high :) "

Ironically at that time it was the fashion to the British politicans to take amphetamines for example the follow members in the Conservative party where Eden belongs to used to take it in order to deliver a good speech in the conservative party conference "man I wonder what the NDP guys take to give us those speeches in the NDP conference  in Egypt !!??"

Anyway the reliance on Benzedrine exceeded its safe limits when Eden led the cabinet in1955 ,imagine yourself in the place of Churchill !! Imagine that everything you do ,whatever you did from achievement ,you will also be in a comparison Churchill , Eden was haunted by Churchill ghost

Eden already shouldn't have been prescribed Benzedrine ,as his historical medical and family background would show a psychologic fragile short tempered child but of course in the past they didn't care to search for the patient past

Yet Eden and even the doctors then didn't know that the overdose Benzedrine got fatal dangerous side effects , first by time the users of amphetamines tend to up their dosage to acquire tolerance , and the result of course is a series of side effect ,the most important ones are the following :

• Irritability
• Mood Swings
• Perceptual changes
• Paranoia

A side effects that can destroy anyone's life with his/her family,career and future ,so imagine the situation with a ruler , Eden was ruling UK then ,imagine his decision

In the summer of 1956 ,he reached the peak of his struggle with addiction

as you know in the 26th of July 1956 President Nasser announced the Nationalization of the Suez canal and since then and due to the Paranoia Eden suffered from ,he took it as a personal matter , as it was suspecting his wife or butler is putting poison in his 5 o'clock tea but it was Gamal Abd El-Nasser , who turned him in to his own personal enemy , just like we say in Egypt "as if Nasser were his step father"

already during the Suez Crisis Eden lived on Benzedrine , he was holding a small box suitable for the pocket full of Benzedrine tablets everywhere , he was so nervous , yes some people noticed but they thought it may be because of the crisis , but no it was not

in fact I believe the crisis was in Benzedrine

Eden's hate to Nasser reached to the dangerous level , when he called Miles Copeland ,the famous C.I.A officer who had a good relations with the Egyptians especially Nasser and asked him for the cooperation of the C.I.A with the M.I.5 to kill Nasser ,yes Kill Nasser ,not even to make a coup or think in returning back the King , no way death was the only solution ,this Egyptian colonel was to be killed , that Egyptian man reminded him with Moslouni ,a faisicate , strange thing is that the term is still used by the Americans to describe the Muslims !!

Copeland felt something is wrong , first the word Eden was nervous , the look in his eyes , the movement of his hands and also the use of the word "Kill" not even "Murder or assassinate" not to kill , it seemed more personal.As an excellent intelligence officer with a sharp eye, Copeland after reaching to Washington D.C he wrote a report not about the deadly suggestion but the mental and physical conditions of Eden , Washington should careful with that sick man

Unfortunately Washington didn't care much yet

Because Eden decided to make war on Nasser and Egypt ,read the words carefully on Nasser before Egypt and thus he found good companions France and Israel and you know the rest

But of course he didn't know what was the result of such foolish war , His troops were stuck in one city could not advance more than Port said ,they didn't even reach the Suez city ,facing a hard ,very hard resistance , then he found his country threatened to be bombed with nuclear missile if the troops weren't withdrawn from Port Said , a call from the American president Eisenhower in a late night ordering him to withdraw immediately

And so he did even without consulting the French or the Israelis, sick ,sad ,divested to the end , the man was going to collapse

Despite the attack of the British Press on Eden on a daily Basis and the public anger ,the man surprised the whole world ,by taking a short vacation to Jamaica by the orders of the doctors while his troops were still in Egypt !!

Of course that destroyed the conservatives' chance in keeping the Cabinet in the next elections

I once read an article in BBC about the Suez War and in it ,the man who wrote that the problem of Eden was that he didn't knew that it was over for England as an Empire ,I don't think so ,I think part of Eden's struggle was that he already knew that and he wanted to prevent it from happening by any cost , he didn't want the British Empire to vanish and that's just another burden to hold on your shoulder

One good lesson all the British Prime Ministers learned from Eden's experience

Follow the United States

If you follow the history of UK foreign policies after the Suez war ,you will find that since the end of it ,UK became the ultimate ally to the United States ,even if it is not in the sake ,the real benefit of UK and its people , and that's the case in the most of time

The invasion of Iraq is the greatest example

In fact now Tony Blair is consider the Labor Anthony Eden , the only differences Eden didn't follow the Americans and he was taking Benzedrine , well I don't know what Blair takes !!

Anyway all the newspapers ,all the experts saying Blair pushed UK in that war of terrorism thing thanks to the United States to a fiasco just like the Suez Crisis

British troops are now in Iraq , facing a semi civil war ,UK is losing lots and lots of popularity in the middle eastern and Islamic streets,UK is looked now as a puppet in the hands of the Americans in the world

The majority of the British People are against the war in Iraq and having troops there

and even look to the situation in Iraq , it is nearly standing in the eve of a civil war

And history will then blame Tony Blair in the same way it blamed Anthony Eden

updates :I am sorry that I publish this again but I just want to remind you with it plus I found new information about the war , I didn't find it before in any western Internet source plus I felt there are some un needed details people won't be interested in it again

We are back in our history lessons ,I am sorry if you don't like history , but I feel must do as paying respect to all my great country people who paid the price of this war

of course if you are following my "1956 war" post series ,you will know immediately that Operation Musketeer was the code name of the military operation UK and France made against Egypt in order to restore back their control on Suez Canal

The first part of the plan or the agreement between France,UK and Israel under the title of Operation Kadesh went fine and the Israelis succeeded in invading Sinai and Gaza Strip and at the same time committing the Kafr Kassam massacre "All that in short time !!"

And now it was the turn of the two ex-powers of the world which didn't realize yet that they became ex-powers and another two countries took their positions

Operation Musketeer was the English and french play , as soon as Israel did it role and invades Sinai,they would act ,both would intervene and instruct both the Egyptian and Israeli armies to withdraw their forces to a distance of 16 KM from either sides of the canal that the shores of the Suez Gulf , then they would place an Anglo-french forces intervention in the canal Zone , that this from PortSaid to Suez !!

Of course after the Israeli invasion on the 29th of October 1956 they offered Nasser this option and it wasn't an option more than order , and of course he refused , why on earth he would accept a reoccupation to his country , he got an army that could defend his land "at least that what logic says" and thus he had to pay the consequences of this refusal, it was a clear announcement of war and invasion to UK and France and that' what they wanted plus Already I believe that they already that's was going to happen , yes in planning you put all the scenarios that can possibly happen , but I believe they knew that Nasser would refuse and there would be a fight

They also gave him a deadline to the 6.30 am in the next day in the 30 of October ,I believe it was only 12 hours period because they issued their warning in the noon of the 29th , anyway they already knew the answer in advance

and that's why both Countries gathered those large numbers of troops to support the invasion, large air forces had been deployed to Cyprus and Malta by the UK and France and many aircraft carriers were deployed. The two airbases on Cyprus were so congested that a third field which was in dubious condition had to be brought into use for French aircraft. Even RAF Luqa on Malta was extremely crowded with RAF Bomber Command aircraft. The UK deployed the aircraft carriers HMS Eagle, Albion and Bulwark and France had the Arromanches and Lafayette on station. In addition, HMS Ocean and Theseus acted as jumping-off points for Britain's helicopter-borne assault (the world's first). In fact I was amazed when I see the list of troops of UK and France here in this historical report

despite what we know that the Anglo-french aggression started on the 31st of October , yet the french did start their attack on the 29th of October in parallel with the Israeli's .The attack began as French paratroops were dropped from Nord-1500 Noratlases over Sinai. Some F-86Fs of the French Air Force also took part in the operation from Ramat-David and Lod-Tel Aviv AFBs. They especially struck tanks and eighteen Llyouchine-28s on October 30th.

On 31st October,after the waiting period was finished the war officially started between UK,France and Egypt, with RAF aircraft already pounding Egypt, A Royal Navy Task Force left Malta comprised of H.M.S. Eagle, H.M.S. Albion and H.M.S. Bulwark carrying Fleet Air Arm aircraft and H.M.S. Ocean and H.M.S. Thesues carrying helicopters and troops bound for the beaches. The LST Lofoten, with men and equipment of No.45 Commando onboard, also accompanied the fleet with its escort of destroyers and frigates.

On November 1st, The french CC Georges Leygues (C 604) supported Israeli artillery at Rafah.French Corsairs took off from the CVL Lafayette in order to try to strike an Egyptian DD ; but without success. A second strike took off from the CVL, and struck Alexandria AFB."It seems to that the French were aiding the IDF so much "

on the same day the british cruiser H.M.S Newfoundland encountered an unknown contact while it was on the southern end of the canal zone , the unknown contact was Domiat, an Egyptian warship ,the British sources say that it was a frigate while the Egyptian ones say that it was a training warship , well I will believe the Egyptian Sources ,not because I am bias to my navy records but according to another western sources Egypt didn't own this type of warship in the 20th century !!!

also the in On the same day the french sunk the Egyptian Warship "DD" {Ibrahim El- Awal"} off Haifa Shore "going to check this too"

The diplomatic relations between, UK and France were cut off , come on it was war !! President Nasser also announced himself as the Military ruler on the country as we were having a war plus nationalizing over1500 establishment owned by the French,British and Australians as their prime minister was the envoy sent to the Egypt from UK

On November the 2nd ,the UN issued its order to cease the fire and stop the war , of course Egypt welcomed it but the trio didn't agree on it except on the 6th of November after the invasion

On November 3rd, Eighteen french aircraft coming from the CVL Lafayette and the CV Arromanches struck Cairo airfield. "CVL:Air craft carrier type" . They also struck different military places for the Egyptian army in the Canal Zone, Egypt in the same time, at the same time the orders came to the Egyptians to sink 5 ships in the Suez Canal to prevent any attempt of invasion from the Suez Canal like what happened in 1882 , when the great leader Orabi asked Delspus to block and close the Canal thus the British forces which failed till then to invade Egypt from the north not from the east and of course the Delspus said his famous lie which cost Egypt its independence when he assured to Orabi that no British soldier would come from the Canal , and unfortunately Orabi believed him ............

Anyway in the western sources they said that we sunk over 50 ships or sometimes more and sometimes even less ,I don't know which is true number !!??

On the 4th of November a very important battleship took place but I would like to include it in other post

Despite all these attacks the invasion wasn't started yet to be honest ,invading Suez Canal Zone , the primary target of that aggressive Musketeer

I believe the Musketeer began his suicidal adventure on the 5th of November

و الاكثر اثارة هو ان تلك الاغنية تمت سرقتها من قبل المدعو سعد الصغير

و اصبح اللآن هناك صراع الفاكهة بين بعرور و الصغير فقد قام الاول برد على الاخير بغناء اغنية جديدة اسمها "حرامى الفاكهة" اما الاخير فقد تجاهل الاول

last time we stopped here "Operation Kadesh initially was similar to 1967 on having the first strike from the IAF , it was planned to launch attack by air fighters from the Meteor type to target the EAF airports in the west of Cairo "I guess Almaza and also Imbaba in Giza as it is in the west of Cairo" yet it was abandoned in the last time in the eve of Kadesh where the IAF was ordered to cover up and assist the ground forces in Sinai , already this is an old Israeli technique before a ground invasion ,the IAF comes in and bomb earth ,so the IDF won't find much resistance just like what happened in South Lebanon, anyway the IAF took their orders on the 28th of October and next day officially the war started on the 29th of October 1956"

One of the things I forgot to mention in Part 1 is that Israel mobilized exactly 450,000 soldier in 73 hours and made its Air forces were fully operational in 43 hours after taking the war decision

The war started officially on the 29th of October with paradrop on the Mitla pass in the heart of Sinai , already the passes area in the heart of Sinai are very strategic , as far as I know with my humble military and geographical information about Sinai , who controls those passes , owns Sinai , anyway if you see more carefully the map of Sinai here ,you will be surprised to find that Mitla pass is on the eastern side more , yes it is in the middle of Sinai ,but it is close to the western shore of the canal ,check it by yourself.It was Moshe Dayan's plan to parachute in to Mitla and from there to move backward to the borders , to aid the ground forces that will come from the eastern borders I guess

of course the parachute brigades needed protection and thus the IAF ordered the take off of pair of air fighters to distract our army from the planned drop zone "clever"

The commander or the leader of the paratroops was a man you already know him Ariel Sharon , but it was n't the first confront between "Arik" and the Egyptian army, in fact in 1955 after the attacks made by the squad troop Sharon led in Gaza strip , Sharon made a daring attack on an Egyptian military base killing 35 Egyptian officer and soldier , of course I know that Egyptians will be amazed by this little massacre , as I never had heard about it before just like you , I don't know why the Egyptian regime hided , it is contradicting to the propaganda the coup of July regime was spreading . It seems to me that despite the Israeli propaganda about the hostility of the Egyptian regime than ,yet the Egyptian regime was trying not to go to war with the Israelis despite all the provokes ,I mean attacking an army base and killing your soldiers are acts of war .

Between October 29 and November 1, 1956, Israel, using fast armored divisions, outflanked, surrounded, and routed the Egyptian forces in Sinai. Israel's air force neutralized more than ninety armored vehicles that vainly tried to shore up Egypt's defenses. Using paratroops, Israel took Egypt's airfields in the Sinai and Israeli forces quickly advanced unopposed toward the Suez Canal.

A battle plan for the operation had been adopted in early October 1956, but was revised following Israel's secret agreement with Britain and France. Under the agreement, Israel would transfer the focus of action as close to the Suez Canal as possible. However, the Israeli government also drew up a course of action allowing it to convert the operation into a brief raid, should the British and French, contrary to the secret agreement, not intervene. In a new plan, adopted on October 25, it was decided to launch the operation with a paratroop landing, and to hold the Armored Corps back until October 31. At 17:00 on October 29, Israeli units parachuted into the eastern approaches of the Mitla Pass near the Canal - a political rather than tactical or strategic objective. The action provided the pretext for a French and British ultimatum to Israel and Egypt, calling on both sides to cease hostilities and withdraw from the Canal area. For diversionary reasons, Israeli forces also advanced on southern and central axes.

On October 31 Britain and France issued their ultimatum ordering both forces to keep all fighting at least 10 miles from the Canal Zone. Israel halted in compliance with the ultimatum, but, as expected, the Egyptians ignored the Anglo-French ultimatum to withdraw since they, the "victims," were being asked to retreat from the Sinai to the west bank of the Canal while the Israelis were permitted to stay just 10 miles east of the Canal.

On October 30, the United States sponsored a Security Council resolution calling for an immediate Israeli withdrawal, but England and France vetoed it. The following day, the two allies launched air operations, bombing Egyptian airfields near Suez.

Given the pretext to continue fighting, the Israeli forces routed the Egyptians. Israel surrounded Gaza and wiped out the Egyptian fortifications there. The IDF's armored corps swept across the desert, capturing virtually the entire Sinai. The Egyptian garrison at Sharm el-Sheikh was overwhelmed on November 5, ending the Sinai Campaign. The Arab world was stunned. In eight days Israel had taken all of the Sinai Desert with its touted fortifications.

Really I can't find many information about how the battles between the Egyptian Army and IDF were except briefly, of course I am not searching in the Egyptian websites ,because there is no much information revealed about the military battles , even the testimonies of the ex-generals are not available in a stupid way , well I am surprised it is the oldest characteristic in any Egyptian regime to hide any military defeat , yes we had a military defeat back then in Sinai ,our land was taken from us  in 6- 7 days "6 days too" , for God Sake,it was only the 5 of November when all units entered Sharm Shekih and Ben Geuiron had an interesting meeting with his army leaders ordering them to fasten the operation of "Israelizing Sinai" , sorry I guess I am using a term from my mind ,this term is to turn Sinai from Egyptian to Israel , he wanted that the names of regions and areas across Sinai to be changed from Arabic to Hebrew, no Arabic name should be left that can indicate its real identity before the security council expected order of ceasing fire.

The Israelis by their turn did n't say much ,because they also were defeated ,in fact If I look to it like this,I found that defeat was much worst than ours , you see when you invade another land and you succeed in this easily with the least losses"check it below and don't laugh " than someone comes and orders you to leave it otherwise you will be punished , then it is a great loss

Kadesh ,when I read this word I always remember Ramses II and his propaganda , I remember immediately the Kadesh battle

Kadesh by the way is the name of the Syrian city where the Egyptian Army had a great battle and made the first Peace agreement between them and their enemy then the Hittites

Kadesh also is a name of a city in Israel ,it means also holy in Hebrew "interesting"

And it was also the code name of the operation or the Israeli invasion that happened in 1956 to Sinai in Egypt and to Gaza in Palestine , it was called "Operation Kadesh"

I don't know if the IDF called it "Kadesh" as reference to the battle or the Hebrew meaning "holy", I believe that it can be referred to the holiness of the operation ,you see Israel was putting hope that it could take Sinai "which has a biblical importance the Jewish faith" to form or complete the Grand Israel project from the Nile to Euphrates so it was like a holy operation for the Israeli side

On the 29th of October in 1956 after only 5 days of agreement in France ,the IDF began the invasion , they invaded Gaza Strip and moved rapidly to Suez Canal Eastern Shore ,invading the Sinai ,already you will be amazed to know that Moshe Dayan and Shimon Perez came up with the plan on the same day of the 24th of October where the three countries signed the Protocol of Sèvres, I guess before signing the Protocol Ben Gurion, the prime minister of Israel and also Minister of defense then asked both Moshe Dayan "Chief of Staff of the IDF" and Shimon Peres "the director general of the IDF {the youngest ever till now }" to the last minute about the readiness of the IDF and the plan to avoid any mess calculation because that adventure they would start would lead them to their biggest achievement ever that including Sinai in to Israel "I guess you already know that "

The plan ironically was drawn on a Kent cigarettes box ,it was Peres' and the pen was Dayan's and Dayan drew it on the the Kent because they couldn't find a map for Sinai in the villa ,imagine a 3 days meeting discussing the invasion of another country and they don't have maps for it !!!

The Kent cigarettes box is already in the archives of the IDF and a copy of it had released last month and it is available in their online archive site unfortunately it is totally in Hebrew :(

Operation Kadesh by the way is similar somehow to what happened in 1967 from an Israeli attack

It started with an Air force attack , the IAF launched its attacks , already since 1953 the Israeli government began to build the IAF buying jets ,training air fighters ,by the way Egypt was the first country in the middle east to have Air forces even before the revolution and this Air force ,was the only one which reached really to the Israeli depth and targeted Tel Aviv in 1948 yet historians tend to forget because it happened during the monarchy !! Anyway back to the IAF

Operation Tarnegol

The attack began on the 28th of October 1956 exactly at 20:00 on the eve of starting "Kadesh" an air fighter from the type of  Meteor NF.13 No.25 was taken off to intercept the Egyptian Air force craft "Ilyushin Il-14" and which was though to have the Egyptian minister of defense then "Abel Hakim Amar" on board coming from Syria , unfortunately he wasn't on board despite that the IAF succeeded in downing the Egyptian Air craft !! What can I say , that ass hole "Amar" had more time on Earth to live !! man I believe if he were on that aircraft , we wouldn't have tough defeat in 1967 :( Amar didn't die because he decided to prolong in Syria .

Of course that attack would have a great impact on Egypt , it is a direct declaration of war when you target your enemy country's defense minister aircraft

But this didn't happen and the strange ,it was never announced in Egypt ,my mother doesn't recall it at all , this may go to the fact that in less than few hours after that attack , "Kadesh" started , so possibly it was among the other news and Egyptians didn't give it much attention perfectly among all the news of invasion and war

even on the other side it was kept as a secret for 33 years ,the Israeli civilians didn't know anything about Operation Tarenegol "Roast" , well the Israeli officials of course then were very sad that there plan didn't go as they wanted , but if they knew what was hidden in the future and how Amar accidentally will serve their dreams of having Sinai and conquering the Egyptian army in 1967 ,they wouldn't dare even to think in a second in bombing Amar !!!

Operation Kadesh

Operation Kadesh initially was similar to 1967 on having the first strike from the IAF , it was planned to launch attack by air fighters from the Meteor type to target the EAF airports in the west of Cairo "I guess Almaza and also Imbaba in Giza as it is in the west of Cairo" yet it was abandoned in the last time in the eve of Kadesh where the IAF was ordered to cover up and assist the ground forces in Sinai , already this is an old Israeli technique before a ground invasion ,the IAF comes in and bomb earth ,so the IDF won't find much resistance just like what happened in South Lebanon, anyway the IAF took their orders on the 28th of October and next day officially the war started on the 29th of October 1956

A Meeting in Sèvres "1956"

Ok last time we discussed the reasons quickly that led to the war of 1956 ,Why England ,France and Israel took the first chance to attack Egypt in order to restore control whether England or France or to expand as the case of Israel "The grand Israel fancy from the Nile to Euphrates"

The chance or the plea or whatever you can call it came to them when President Nasser as I said in the pervious post in that series about 1956 decided to nationalize le compagine universalle du Canal maeitime de Suez to become an Egyptian shareholding company "I don't know how come Shareholding and at the same time its shares were n't released in the stock exchange as far as I read and know !!"

The planning for War started orignailly started in London with Sir Anthony Eden great and sick hate toward Nasser with an idea of killing Nasser that was rejected according to Miles Copeland who warned the American administration from Eden's rush policies and the American administration worked according to this warning and from July to October Washington tried to reduce the tension between Cairo and London but in vain because in the same time the U.S was playing the role of Dove ,the UK was gathering its powers and finding new allies for its new crusade

I don't know if the C.I.A knew what was going to happen from War attack and aggression , but I believe the American

administration did n't know what the UK or France or even its favorite ally in the world Israel were doing from the 21th to the 24th of October 1956 in the French city of Sèvres

As Under the sponsorship and support of the former managers of "Le comagine Universelle du maritime de Suez" a series of secret meetings between the representatives of "France","Israel" and "UK" took place in a villa in the quiet city of Sèvres outside Paris.This is very interesting as it is an early example of how business and money control the politics ,it was just like the War in Iraq ,the old one was to control a vital Marine crossing , the new one was to control  one of the most important oil sources in the world.

 For three days of meeting they reached in to a diabolic plan ,some can call it smart , but I won't call it so because they miscalculated several factors from my point of view which I will discuss later

The details of this plan or this meeting and what happened later emerged only years later ,because the records of these meeting were destroyed yet one document signed by very important official on the 24th of October was enough ,this document is in Israel now because the French copy was lost as the French said and the English copy was destroyed by the Orders of Eden

I won't speak more but instead I will leave Mr Avi Shalim speaks :

"On 24 October 1956, in a private villa in Sèvres on the outskirts of Paris, representatives of the British, French, and Israeli governments, at the end of a three-day meeting which was concealed behind a thick veil of secrecy, signed a most curious document which later came to be known as the Protocol of Sèvres. The document set out in precise detail the plan of the three governments to attack Egypt. The plan, in a nutshell, was that Israel would attack the Egyptian army near the Suez Canal, and that this attack would serve as the pretext for an Anglo-French military intervention. Written in French and typed in three copies, this Protocol was signed by Patrick Dean, an Assistant Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office for Britain, by foreign minister Christian Pineau for France, and by prime minister David Ben-Gurion for Israel. To the end of his days Sir Anthony Eden, the driving force on the British side on the road to war, denied that there had been any collusion with Israel or even foreknowledge that Israel would attack Egypt. The Protocol of Sèvres tells a different story. The British copy was in fact destroyed on Eden’s orders, the French copy was lost, and the Israeli copy was kept under lock and key in the Ben-Gurion Archives in Sede-Boker. In 1996 permission was given to photocopy the protocol for a BBC documentary shown on the fortieth anniversary of the Suez War. With the release of the protocol, the tripartite meeting at Sèvres became not only the most famous but also the best-documented war plot in modern history."

The plan is some simple Israel would attack the Egyptian army and invade Sinai and Gaza and advance near to the Suez Canal "Operation kadesh"

 Of course in time of War and the dangerous implications of the a war beside the Suez Canal ,the international Maritime industry would be threatened , whether from the war or whether from an expected and logic closing of the Canal from Egypt's side until the military operations finishes ,and thus to protect the international maritime movement in the Suez, the French and English armies would intervene in order to

1. To protect the Canal and its neutral status
2. To force the Egyptian and Israeli forces to withdraw from the Suez Canal to a distance of ten miles "16 km"

3. To place an Anglo-French intervention force in the Canal Zone near Port Said 

"Operation Maskteer"

And thus the agreement was made and the protocol was signed by

Patrick Dean , an Assistant Under Secretary at the Foreign Office for Britain

Foreign Minister of France Christian Pineau

And David Ben Gurion himself as the prime minister of Israel

You know it is strange that the representative of both UK and France were not as important or as the same rank as Ben Gurion , I mean he was a Prime Minister , France only sent its Foreign Minister and UK even sent an assistant under Secretary at the Foreign office to sign that devilish protocol despite its importance , one can think that Eden himself would attend it

But may be because they wanted Secrecy despite the attendance of the Israeli prime minister to France ,yet it can be covered

My point is that they wanted to hide this plan so no one would uncover the trick

Now while searching on the Internet I found a very interesting fact from a Website called "Council on international relations",it is an American council and in one of its session dedicated to discussing both Hungary and Suez crisis after 50 years ,I found out that UK wanted to target Alexandria first ,yet it was changed in September 1956 , now already "Operation Maskteer" was put or finalized in October !! very interesting

I recommend to read about this session special the part about Egypt and Egyptian version of the story and its recording

You know this is from the the few moments America was double crossed by its own allies according to this session "it is very long and I couldn't complete it"

but I notice something they ignored the Israeli part !!??

The Suez war started officially  on the 29th of October 1956 , with an Israeli Land invasion to the Gaza strip " was already the Egyptian rule according to the United Nations resolution in 1948" and made a huge progress towards the Suez canal area , in this time UK and France proposed or offered to President Nasser that they can reoccupy the Suez area again to separate between the two armies , but of course President Nasser refused , for that refusal ,which I guess was expected , England and France decided to invaded the Suez area claiming that they were protecting the international naval movement and the independence of the Suez canal

That we all know from the fast history books to be studied in schools now but if we read more history books about this period and if you read the french ,British ,Israeli and Egyptian official and unofficial documents

Already this autumn war was the result of a very long hot ,very hot summer

First before this summer of 1956 , UK ,France and Israel began to got sick from the new ruling growing power of the free officers headed by Nasser since 1954 , they thought "especially Israel and UK" that they got a better new ruler to Egypt then King Farouk , but truth and future proved other wise

The Suez Canal of course for UK was the central of dispute , It had the largest British military base in the world ,it was controlling the most vital water canal in the world ,a strategic place from which it could control the middle east. In 1951 Egyptian legendary prime minister Mustafa El-Nahas stood in the Egyptian Parliament declaring that he decided to cancel the treaty of 1936 saying his famous words

"I signed it for Egypt and I cancel it for Egypt"

These magical words were the start key of a fierce resistance from the Egyptian people against the British arm forces in the Canal , as according to the treaty ,England controlled and now after its cancellation from the Egyptian side,they had no reason to stay , anyway they tried to stay in a way or another till they had to leave whether they liked it or not on July 1956 after agreeing to pull out in 1954

Leaving the Canal was another defeat to UK which is losing more and more colonies to be independent nations and more important losing its position as World leader to be replaced after the WWII by the New strong and rich United States of America , not to mention also the new growing power of the Soviet Union

By the way Egypt took its independence from UK in 1921 , not a complete because of the existence of the British forces in the Egyptian lands and the British control and interfere in Egyptian policies

This is from the United Kingdom and it doesn't stop in a dignity of a country or a world power , but it turned out to be a matter of dignity of a tall British man "speak about him in a separate post with God's will"

For France ,it was another story ,it started first by the support of the Free officers and president Nasser to the Algerian revolution led by Ahmed Ben Bella and his companions who were seeking the freedom of their country from a terrible french colonization ,it was like a pain in the ass for France by all ways

then came the last straw 

France may be didn't control the Canal political ,but it owned it financially , Suez Canal beside its strategic political importance ,it had a great economic significance ,it is enough to say now in 2006 ,it is the no.1 source of national income in Egypt and it is enough to say that then 2/3 of Europe's oil was imported through it and the IMF refused to fund Egypt to build the high dam in Aswan to generate electricity for Egypt and protect it from the Nile destructive Nile flood and drought ,already UK and the United States agreed to fund the project but because the deal of Czechoslovakian weapons between Egypt and Communist Czechoslovakia ,the extended relations with Red China and Egypt's total support and participation in Bandung conference , all these factors gave to the leading countries of the west Egypt that Egypt was heading towards the communist East not to mention its disturbing adaptation of Arab Nationalism ideas, and thus it needed to be punished ,unfortunately these policies didn't bring Egypt back to them ,in fact it turned otherwise

As President Nasser decided to search for other alternatives for funding raising the high dam project , and it was on the 26 of July in the Manshya square in Alexandria where he said his unforgettable words :

"We decided to Nationalize The Universal Company of Suez Canal for navigation to be an Egyptian Corporate company "

And that's was it for France and also For UK , Nasser and his friends should be stopped at any cost

Now to the third and the new partner in the game of Nations ,Israel , the newly Hebrew state

By the way this war was the first direct War between Egypt and Israel , and by this I mean no other Arab Country involved in this war like in 1948 or later in 1967 or in 1973

Egypt led the war against Israel in 1948 or in other better words led the war against its establishing , in fact Egypt was the first and I believe only country that attacked the inside cities of newly born Israel in 1948 when the Egyptian Royal Air forces hit Tel Aviv , already Egypt according the last revealed officials and unofficial documents didn't lose the war because of the weaponry or corrupted king ,on the contrary , Egyptian and Syrian army were very close to victory but thanks to both of the regimes of Jordan and Iraq then "and still now in the case of first" as the Hishamis were allies to the British and the British of course gave Palestine to the Zionists ,we lost the war .Anyway of the dramatic results of the 1948 in my point of view was the movement of free officers that led to the 1952 overthrow of the monarchy in Egypt ,already it is known that the siege of the Egyptian army in the Fallujah led many officers including Nasser to think about the conditions of Egypt in that time, and thus when Israel was happy that Farouk left the kingdom of the Nile they didn't know that the new inhabitants of Abdeen Palace would be much worst.General Mohamed Naguib ,the first president of Egypt and after him Nasser defined Israel as an enemy we should be cautious from it , we should restore Palestine from it to the end of this kind of talk , already Israel also considered them as an enemy and started to create a gap between them and the American administration which supported them totally and the best evidence on that was the group of terrorist acts led by a secret terrorist Israeli operating in Cairo against the American establishments and western places in Egypt better known in the Egyptian espionage history as Lavon affair "be cautious with English Wikipedia :)"

Anyway as you may know Egypt as I mentioned before was ruling the Gaza Strip according to the UN resolution in 1948 ,it was n't an occupation like Wikipedia defines it I am sorry to say , because also according to the same UN resolution which I am afraid I don't recall its number Jerusalem was under the Jordanian rule

In Gaza strip in that time before the Suez Crisis , there were many small militia groups ,which were made Gaza their base for operations against the Hebrew State and these groups were increasing in number with the increase number of refugees, for that the IDF decided to launch counter attacks ,and guess who was leading those attacks Young Ariel Sharon who left his study in the University to become the leader of the first special forces unit 101 in year 1953 , as I said this unit 101 made attacks on the commandos of the militia groups despite the disapproval of the United Nations ,already if you read what is written in Wikipedia about this Unit ,you will find that they did more than defense ,they did war crimes and genocide, and I believe the Arab regimes then were mistaken to be silenced

Anyway the Silence was over between the Egyptian Army and IDF after the Gaza Raid on 28th of February 1955, I could n't find much information about it except that Unit 101 did a horrible massacre in Gaza, after this massacre Egyptian army decided of course with orders from the regime to support the guerrilla groups ,to train them ,to supply them with weaponry , not that only but also include with them Egyptian guerrilla elements from them who fought the British in 1951 and the Zionist army in 1948 "before the official ordinary Arab armies declare the war on Israel in 1948,Egyptian commandos were having their own battles , and by the way many of them were from the Muslim brotherhood of Egypt " also some people said that there were also Egyptian officers from the army "prove it if you can", this of course made the Israelis more and more angry

Their anger exceeded more when they listened to Nasser full of enthusiasm speech against their state and its existence and his bold move to buy tanks from Czechoslovakia after the American refusal to supply the new Egyptian republic with weaponry ,of course due to Israel request "man we didn't turn left for no reason , Nasser was the God son of Miles Copeland" ,no Arab country should be armed like Israel

The Israelis claim that in September 1955 Egypt closed and sealed off the Gulf of Akaba and thus closed the access to the port of Eilat and that was an act of war , I don't know how much that was true , in fact me and my mom argued about it , but the strange thing is that Eilat was opened in 1957 ,that was after two years from the claimed date !!??

I guess Israel wanted the free navigation in the Red Sea and it knew that it would be difficult with Nasser's policies and the hate of the Arab world to have a free navigation in Red Sea with Israeli flag on the ships ,so they claimed that that Egypt sealed off the gulf of Akaba, already I don't understand why they put Egypt in their minds while that there was still Jordan but may be because there was still Saudi Arabia and it had good relations with Egypt then ,they decided to do their late play , but it seems that no body paid attention to it , because if it were real ,why they didn't go to the UN !! And made it look like an act of war from Egypt's side

Anyway as you see you got three countries angry and mad from Egypt then , want to reach it , already till July 26th they didn't have a plea against the new rising power in the middle east and also the third world ,then after the announcement that shake the Manshya public square in Alexandria ,they got something to be move for

It Started hot summer ,with secret and declared negotiations in Cairo,London and Paris

And reached to level of Eruption in an Autumn of anger

First I apologize that I didn't post in its time , this is due to three reasons

1. It was Ramadan and I barely remember anything this Ramadan
2. My PC problem , my old master hard drive loaded with lots of historical material from photos and so on is physically damaged and unfortunately its kind is rare in the Egyptian market "Quantum" yet the data is still on it  :(
3. I forgot the occasion really and the media in Egypt this year despite its importance didn't spot on it the light as expected in the jubilee of such important memory

Second ,it is never too late , because today from 50 years Egypt shores on the Mediterranean were doing a siege by 1500 British,French and Israeli warships and the Israeli IDF was still in Gaza strip and Sinai

Inshallah I will start a series of articles about this great war from today from history to arts to family memories to even modern day example
